Specialist Physical Education at Geelong East Primary School

In Physical Education, we focus on the development of movement skills and concepts in a range of inclusive and engaging activities. Students are encouraged to develop a life long love of physical activity and recognise its contribution to their physical and mental wellbeing.
In years Prep to Two, weekly sessions focus on learning fundamental movement skills (catch, run, kick, jump, throw, bounce, strike). Students develop their group work and collaborative skills by participating in small sided team games and rotation activities.
In Years Three to Six students develop their ability sequence movement skills and think strategically in modified games. In addition to their Specialist Physical Education lesson they participate in one hour of Year Level Sport where they learn the rules and skills in order to play sports chosen by the students such as lacrosse, basketball and cricket. Students in Years Three to Six also participate in a school cross country and athletics carnival where they have the opportunity to progress to compete against other schools at a district, division, region and state level.
Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to participate in one of four Lightening Premiership Tournaments across the year, selecting from soccer, tee ball, netball or AFL.
